GCM’s VHD heat sink technology is now being evaluated in a growing set of client‑specific products, with sixteen units already dispatched for testing. This early deployment allows partners to assess real‑world performance and to provide feedback that will shape the next iteration of the design.

The dispatched units span a spectrum of form factors, enabling partners to validate thermal performance across both low‑power LED modules and high‑density AI server boards, while providing real‑world data on mounting tolerances and vibration resilience.

Pipeline reaches 24 designs, 16 already shipped

The firm’s development line now lists twenty‑four distinct designs. Eight more are still in design or manufacturing phases, indicating a healthy pipeline that balances near‑term delivery with longer‑range innovation.

The eight designs still in progress are undergoing detailed thermal‑finite‑element modelling and prototype tooling, which aligns with GCM’s stated shift from laboratory‑scale to pilot‑scale manufacturing within a year of acquiring the technology.

Across air, liquid and immersion cooling, the applications cover aerospace, artificial‑intelligence servers, data‑centre racks and electric‑vehicle charging stations. The range also touches high‑performance computing, industrial power modules, LED fixtures and unmanned aerial platforms, demonstrating the versatility of the technology across both terrestrial and airborne environments.

Performance data fuels interest in defence and data centres

Laboratory trials at UNSW recorded an in‑plane thermal conductivity of 422 W/mK for the VHD material, versus 328 W/mK for copper and 142 W/mK for aluminium under the same conditions. Those results highlight a substantial advantage in heat‑transfer capability compared with conventional metals.

In LED lighting tests, modules equipped with VHD showed surface temperatures 3.1 °C and 3.3 °C lower than comparable aluminium units for 25 W and 40 W power levels respectively. The cooler operation translates into reduced thermal stress on the LEDs, which can extend their usable life.

The figures have drawn particular attention from defence and aerospace programmes, where weight savings and heat removal are important. Industrial power‑electronics firms and high‑performance computing operators are also requesting deeper evaluations, seeking to capitalize on the efficiency gains demonstrated in the lab.

From a practical standpoint, the lower temperatures could translate into longer component lifespans and reduced cooling‑system size for end users, easing integration challenges in cramped enclosures. This benefit is especially valuable for systems that must meet strict reliability standards while maintaining a compact footprint.

Joint development with ALVC moves to hardware prototypes

The company signed a twenty‑four‑month binding joint development agreement with Shenzhen Wanwei Heat Conduction Technology, known as ALVC. The partnership aims to merge ALVC’s vapour‑chamber approach with the firm’s VHD sinks, creating hybrid solutions that could set new benchmarks for thermal management.

The first batch of compact VHD heat sinks, machined to an ALVC‑provided design, has been shipped for physical testing. These prototypes will let the partner assess integration with its vapour‑chamber units and guide subsequent design tweaks.

A larger bonded heat sink, compatible with a bigger vapour‑chamber layout, is also in the pipeline. Its evaluation will follow the initial prototype’s results, ensuring a stepwise progression from small‑scale trials to more demanding applications.

Since the DigiKey catalog launch, the standard VHD line has expanded to 44 distinct part numbers, and the platform’s online visibility has generated sampling inquiries from engineering teams in both the United States and Australia, accelerating early‑stage adoption.

Multiple routes to market and upcoming commercial milestones

Standard, ready‑to‑buy VHD products are listed on DigiKey, offering a scalable channel for discovery, low‑volume orders, sampling and early‑stage testing. DigiKey’s outreach has raised awareness in the United States and Australia, expanding the geographic reach of the technology.
