Remcon Equipment Inc., a conveyor system manufacturer based in Airway Heights, has hired Sean Johnston as its new CEO. Johnston plans to utilize his background in artificial intelligence and technology to improve operational efficiency and drive growth for the company.

Located at 2207 S. Lawson, Remcon was founded in 1977 by engineer Dennis Lux, who now serves as CEO emeritus. The company primarily serves the recycling industry with custom-built heavy conveyor systems.

Johnston, 32, studied operations and technology management at the University of Portland. He most recently worked for Triumph Financial Inc., managing AI product development. Johnston began his new role at Remcon in early August.

The company employs seven engineers, welders, and technicians at its Airway Heights facility. Johnston plans to use his experience with AI tools, such as Anthropic PBC’s Claude AI model, to create programs that assist in prototyping and design, reducing quote times for customers from 15-20 days to around five days.

They are building out parametric models to improve efficiency. Instead of having to draw a conveyor system from scratch every time, or take a copy of a previous system and then modify it in designs, they can have a set system that they adjust the parameters on to make it fit the application that they need, Johnston explains. AI tools could also help with accounting needs and improve efficiency during the testing phase.

With the help of these tools, Johnston hopes to increase the number of units produced each year and increase revenue. The company currently ships between 20 and 30 systems a year and earned revenue in the low millions in 2025. Remcon expects to hire additional engineers, technicians, and sales employees as revenue grows.

Revenue is expected to increase to between $10 million and $20 million within the next five years. This growth will be driven by Johnston’s sales experience and his ability to network and connect with past clients to boost sales.

Johnston will spend time learning about the conveyor manufacturing process from employees to better understand the business. He says, “We have a great product, and the guys on the shop floor do an incredible job putting it together.”

Remcon’s growth plans are focused on becoming a regional powerhouse, with Johnston at the helm. The company’s future looks promising, with a strong foundation in the recycling industry and a new leader with a vision for expansion and innovation.
